Eight easy and effective ways to promote your alumni website

Successfully promoting your alumni website doesn’t need to be difficult. We’ve come up with a checklist of eight easy ways you can make your alumni aware.

I’ve just signed up to the alumni community of my old university. I could have joined years ago really, but quite simply, I wasn’t aware this online community existed until I got an email the other day. It was very quick and easy to join – I was done before the ad break in The Great British Bake Off finished. I just needed a little reminder.

Successfully promoting your alumni website doesn’t need to be difficult. It’s about covering all the bases where people can be made aware of the websites existence. Sending effective targeted emails is one way of driving traffic to your website, but have you thought about other ways?

In my role as Community Manager at ToucanTech, I’m on the look out for what works in alumni relations. How do you continue to grow the membership of your alumni website after the momentum of a launch? Having spent many an hour researching our alumni networks, I’ve come up with a checklist of eight easy and effective ways to successfully promote your alumni network. How many can you tick off?

✔ We all send a lot of emails! Have you added a link promoting your alumni website from your email signature?

✔ Is your alumni website linked from your main school website?

✔ Is there a link to your alumni website on the school’s Wikipedia page?

✔ Is there a link to your alumni website from your Twitter and Facebook pages?

✔ Have you put a reminder about your alumni website in your newsletter?

✔ Do you have a reunion event coming up? Bring a laptop or tablet and encourage attendees to sign up

✔ Do you have the ToucanTech widget embedded on your school website?

✔ And lastly…have you asked your alumni to join? You can always ask them again (It worked for me!)
